In combat opertions in Vietnam, Takelma was at "Yankee Station" in the Gulf Tonkin from 8 July to 15 August 1968.

Vietnam
She sailed for Pearl Harbor 12 November, and on 15 November got underway for Adak for a four month tour in the Aleutians which ended on 25 February 1970. On the 27th of August she sailed for the Far East and duty with the 7th fleet.
Aleutians
The ship returned to Hawaii on 2 May 1974 and then to home port in San Diego October 1976. On 1 July 1979 Takelma was used as a naval reserve training ship. She was decommissioned on 6 October 1983.
Home Port
The USS Takelma ATF 113 received two battle star for Korean service and two for Vietnam service.

The USS Takelma was not ready for the mothballs! She was given to Argentina and is now serving her navy. She is now named ARA 6 Castillo and was last known to be patrolling in the Antartica summer campaign 1996
UPDATED

USS TAKELMA 113, now the ARA 6 CASTILLO is doing fine.

She has been assigned to the Maritime Patrol Division and is home ported in Mar del Plata Naval Base approximately 450 km from Buenos Aires.

She has been fitted with a satellite phone, and a new positioning system and has been doing Antartic rescue patrols nearly every summer since she arrived in 1994.
